Melissa Fleming is being transformed into a princess as she makes her professional debut in pantomime.
The actress, from Boldon Colliery, is set to play Cinderella in the festive show at Kings Lynn Corn Exchange, in Norfolk.
The 23-year-old will star alongside EastEnders actor Matt Lapinskas as Prince Charming in the show, which runs from December 9 to 31.
Melissa, who is set to graduate from London’s Mount View Academy of Theatre Arts with a degree in musical theatre in a few weeks, said: “It’s my first professional show and it feels really good.
“I’ve been training for three years and this is what I’ve been working towards. I finished in July but don’t graduate for a few weeks so it feels amazing to have got this part.
“I’m really happy because this is such a good production company and it’s a great part.
“I’m really excited but a little apprehensive as well. We did a launch recently and I got to meet everyone for the first time and they were all talking about how they’ve done panto before and it made me a little nervous, but everyone says it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Melissa will star in the classic fairytale as a servant girl turned princess.
She added: “They’ve only put me in her rags so far so I haven’t actually seen the dress yet, but I’m sure it’ll make me feel all girly and like a real princess.
“Panto has always been part of our family tradition – we’d go every year.
“For a lot of children, panto is their first experience of going to see live theatre and it’s really special to be able to be a part of that.
“It’s going to be like Christmas every day and I can’t wait to be up on stage making people happy. Panto is a big part of Christmas for a lot of people so to be in a panto is just brilliant.
“I won’t get home for Christmas unfortunately but my family are going to come to me so we’ll still be able to celebrate together.”
