Jarrow actress Alice Stokoe is joining the cast of American Idiot.
The 24-year-old is starring as Extraordinary Girl in the UK tour of Green Day’s musical.
The award-winning show is travelling the UK after runs in Broadway and the West End.
It features the music of Green Day, mainly from the band’s 2004 album American Idiot, and follows three boyhood friends searching for meaning in a post-9/11 world.
The soundtrack includes Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Wake Me Up When September Ends, 21 Guns, Holiday and title track American Idiot.
Alice will join X Factor’s Amelia Lily, who is continuing her role of Whatsername from the West End, and Double Platinum-selling artist Newton Faulkner, who will be taking on the tole of Johnny from May.
Newton said: “My first ever band was essentially a Green Day cover band, with one of the guys currently in the show, Lucas Rush, so it’s amazingly strange to be reunited under these circumstances. I can’t wait. The first record I ever bought was Dookie, so yeah, I was a massive Green Day fan, still am.”
The tour kicks off next month and comes to the Sunderland Empire from May 24 to 28.
Alice spent the recent festive season starring as Alice Fitzfenwick in panto Dick Whittington at Newcastle’s Theatre Royal.
Before that, she spent a year in the West End starring as Sophie in Abba musical Mamma Mia.
