DURHAM will be alive with The Sound of Musicals tonight (Saturday, October 29) as young performers step into the spotlight.

Members of the Gala Theatre Stage School will perform classic songs from some of the world’s most popular musicals at the city centre venue this evening at 7pm.

The show features songs from Guys and Dolls, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Oklahoma, Singin’ in the Rain and The Sound of Music.

Kate Sorahan, director of the Gala Theatre Stage School, said: “For the first time, the school is taking on the old school musicals, which have their own unique style.

“However, the show will be performed by the ensemble cast, which includes the older and more advanced members of the stage school and they definitely have the talent to take on the challenge.

“Audiences will feel as though the hills of Durham really are alive with the sound of music.”

With more than 200 members, the Gala Theatre Stage School regularly performs to sell-out audiences.

Their most recent productions of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Les Miserables, both received standing ovations.

Tickets are £12 or £10 for concessions. To book, visit the Gala Theatre box office, call 332 4041 or go online at www.galadurham.co.uk
