FLAMBOYANT Dame Edna Everage, aka legendary entertainer Barry Humphries, is to visit the region on his final tour.
Newcastle Theatre Royal will be the first date in the iconic performer’s 2014 diary after a West End season over Christmas 2013.
Eat Pray Laugh! will give audiences across the country the chance to bid farewell to Humphries, one of Australia’s greatest entertainment exports, and his unforgettable characters: the Honorable Sir Les Patterson, Sandy Stone and, of course, Dame Edna Everage.
Dame Edna is one of the most eccentric stars of the last 50 years. The “housewife superstar” has played the West End and Broadway on numerous occasions, performing to packed theatres including the Royal Albert Hall at the Last Night of the Poms, as well as countless performances for the Royal Family.
Her television credits include the UK special A Night on Mt. Edna as well as her own chat show, The Dame Edna Experience.
Act One of Eat Pray Laugh! features gentle, grandfatherly Sandy Stone and the inebriated cultural attaché Sir Les Patterson.
Humphries has already taken his final triumphant bow to audiences in Australia and New Zealand where, due to high demand for tickets, additional performances needed to be added across the tour to satisfy the demand of over 250,000 fans.
This new show is directed by award-winning Australian theatre director Simon Phillips, who directed the original Priscilla Queen of the Desert.
l Tickets for Eat Pray Laugh! are from £29.50 and can be bought from the Theatre Royal Box Office on 08448 112121, or select your own seat and book online at www.theatreroyal.co.uk.
