Fans eager to get their hands on Rihanna tickets will be able to queue at the Stadium of Light on Thursday.
Tickets for the singer’s return to Wearside will go on sale from 9am on December 3, and those who want to get their hands on pitch tickets first will be able to queue at Black Cat House from 6am on the day of release.
After a sell out gig at the stadium in 2013 with her Diamonds tour, which drew a record crowd of more than 56,000 to the venue, the star will return on June 18 to promote forthcoming album, Anti.
Ticket agent lines and web purchases for the gig will also go live at 9am on Thursday.
Rihanna was originally lined up to play the stadium last year, but her tour with Kanye West was cancelled days before it was officially announced. Since then, concert bosses at the stadium have spent the past 12 months securing her return for this world tour.
“We’re particularly pleased to have her play on a Saturday night, it’s the best day you can have in terms of sales, plus it means people will be able to make a weekend of it,” explains SAFC commercial director, Gary Hutchinson.
Talks had been in place with Coldplay and The Stone Roses about playing the venue, but they decided to limit their tours to other locations. So far, Rihanna is the only act confirmed for 2016, but Gary says if they can secure another act, they will.
Since 2013, the stadium has invested £250,000 in extra signage and made changes to its entry system to ensure entry and exit from gigs runs as smoothly as possible.
Gary added: “Rihanna has created a real buzz surrounding this world tour and her new album as part of her online ANTI DiaRy campaign and we are thrilled to be a part of it. There has been unprecedented interested since the announcement and we fully expect this concert to match Rihanna’s last visit to Sunderland and sell-out, so we urge fans to secure their tickets as soon as possible to avoid any disappointment.”
Supporting Rihanna on the tour will be The Weeknd, whose album Beauty Behind The Madness reached number 1 in the UK charts, and American rapper Big Sean.
