‘Tis the season to keep on partying!

THIS week, Sunderland seems to be nursing one big, fat collective hangover.

No doubt the festivities have taken their toll on many a purse string and waistline, but we felt we hadn’t overindulged quite enough, so headed off on one last seasonal outing.

We’d both had a somewhat subdued New Year’s Eve – one of the most over-rated nights of the year if you ask me – so decided to see what Sunderland city centre had to offer on the first day of 2012.

It was a match day – Sunderland were playing Man City – so I’m told.

Not being fans of the beautiful game and with not a red and white stripe between us, we chose to steer clear of the pubs showing the match.

After a few cocktails in Revs to kick-start our day-time drinking session, we headed to Lola’s.

Whenever we’ve visited Lola’s on a Friday or Saturday night, it’s been rammed, so it was refreshing to visit at a time when we could actually enjoy the surroundings and find a seat.

Cara’s parents have a holiday home in Marbella so we’ve become regulars at the resort. Owners of the bar are fans of the Costa Del Sol hot spot too, so it seems.

Lola’s combines a mix of Buddhas and retro chic that’s all the rage over there.

We sampled one of the trendy watering hole’s most popular drinks – the passion fruit Martini – and liked it so much we made it our cocktail of the week.

It’s usually priced £4.50, but we’ve teamed up with the bar for a more purse-friendly price.

Fellow Echoette Jane O’Neill joined us just in time for the bar’s match-day offer of free hot dogs or a beef sandwich.

Cool cocktails and free bait! What more could we have asked for?
