Have your say

THERE’S nothing like the luck of the Irish and Paddy Whacks has got it in droves.

Though the bar, which is up for sale, has been in administration since June, it’s business as usual at the Green Terrace venue which is still pulling in the punters.

If you’ve never been to Paddy’s to join in the Emerald Isle celebrations, then make sure you hot foot it down there on Saturday.

They are offering a huge mix of live bands, Guinness and free grub, including Irish stew – what more could you want?

Paddy Whacks bar manager Seamus Whelan, says his staff look forward to the celebrations all year and have already decked out the bar in preparation.

He said: “People ask us daily if we’re shutting down, but that’s not the case at all.”

Speaking about this weekend, one of the busiest in the bar’s calendar, he said: “It’s the only place to be. We’ve built up a huge reputation and everyone should come down and enjoy themselves.

“The bands, including the Emerald Thieves, will be playing a mix of modern and traditional Irish music and we will be teaching people the traditional dances throughout the night.”

He added: “For three successive years we have been awarded Best Guinness Sales for the North of England over the St Patrick’s Day period, and we will be aiming to retain that title this year.”

The celebrations start at 12pm on Saturday and you can still get your sports fix as they will be showing the Sunderland match and England v Ireland in the 6 Nations Rugby tournament.
