Shaken and stirred by cocktail classes

LAST-MINUTE plans often lead to the best nights out.

We decided a cocktail master class was something us Seen girls should definitely try, and thanks to the staff at Revolution on Low Row, we were able to grab a couple of friends and try our hand at mixing spirits.

I had no idea what to expect from Revolution’s Cocktail Master Class, but when we walked into the bar and found our seats reserved with a kir royal cocktail and a shot of mint vodka, I quickly realised we were in for a good night.

After a chat with our barmaid for the night, Danielle, about the history of the vodka Revs uses and some of the basic tools needed to create the perfect cocktail, it was time for us to take on the challenge, get behind the bar and start shaking, muddling and mixing.

We worked our way through the classics from the mojito to sex on the beach, and some of us got to grips with the science of cocktails a little quicker than others.

Fellow echoette Jane was a little overzealous with the alcohol, but who can blame her? As a mojito fanatic, I decided to make the bison grass mojito.

I had never tried it and it was yummy – even if I do say so myself.

The vodka that is used in the cocktail comes from a bottle containing grass from a bison’s field and apparently if the blade falls into your drink, it’s lucky.

The bar was soon covered in our cocktail-making efforts and just when we thought we were coming to the end, out came the blindfold.

As part of the class, two of your group have to make a mudslide cocktail, the catch is one of them has to be blindfolded and the other has to guide them through the process.

This task had us all in fits of giggles as Georga ended up covered in milk, cream and chocolate as she tried to follow Jane’s directions.

The surprises just kept coming.

After receiving a certificate, Danielle asked us to knock over a stack of shots that had a domino effect and dropped spirits into glasses they were balanced on, creating yet another cocktail for us to drink.

The cocktail master class is the perfect alternative to the usual city centre pub crawl and the amount of cocktails you make means you really get your money’s worth.

We opted for pizza after the class, which is a great idea if you want to soak up some of the alcohol.

I think we all learnt something new about the drinks we love – so cheers Revolution for a top-notch cocktail session.
