FORMER footballer Mickey Gray was drafted in to judge at Miss 24 Carat due to his connections with one of its chosen charities, the SAFC Foundation.

We met up with him after the show for an interview for our website and, though he now lives in Manchester, the Castletown lad seemed as passionate as ever about being in his home town.

He’s hung up his playing boots to be a pundit and says SAFC’s recent success on the pitch is a big boost to the city.

“Since Martin’s come through the door he’s given the club a new lease of life and is getting an extra 15-20 per cent out of the players,” he said.

“Fans are coming back to the stadium and getting behind the manager.

“Sunderland is a passionate place and that’s the way it should be.”
