Following the success of its previous tipples, Poetic License Distillery has launched a limited-edition gin in time for blackberry week.

Distilled at the drinks company’s base within Poetic License bar in the Roker Hotel, the gin is part of their range of one-off spirit products, The Rarities.

There are only a few hundred bottles of each and when they’re gone, they’re gone.

This latest edition is a deep purple gin with a sweet, piney juniper nose backed up with bay leaf which will be available from next week, with pre-orders being taken now.

Previous rarities, such as an orange blossom and a cherry and basil version, have sold out within days.

Distiller, Luke Smith, said: “We do love to experiment with fruit flavours but we are also keen to use the season as a guide - I actually went out and picked the blackberries for this gin myself.

“Blackberries are a classic accompaniment for gin, most notably in the famous Gin Bramble cocktail, which we’ve done our own take of with this gin. It also drinks very well with Mediterranean tonic, garnished with a blackberry, as it brings out the sweetness from the berries and the herbacousness from the bay.”
