SUNDERLAND seems to be brimming with beauty queens at the minute – which I’m sure won’t be a cause of complaint for Mackem men.
Teenagers Amy Scott and Rebecca Mason are the latest leggy lovelies to join the sequins and sashes brigade.
Amy, 19, from Ryhope, has picked up the Miss Bridges crown, a qualifier for this year’s Miss Sunderland contest.
Miss Sunderland organiser, Simon Robertson, said: “Amy had a great look that the judges at the heat really liked. She has a great fashion look, so is a perfect ambassador for the shopping centre.”
Rebecca Mason, 19, from Sunderland, will also be strutting her stuff at the Miss Sunderland final, which takes place at Rainton Meadows Arena on June 10, after winning the Miss Sun FM heat.
Simon said: “Rebecca really has her own individual style. She has a very vintage look which makes her stand out from the crowd and adds something different to the contest.”
The Miss Sunderland beauty pageant was resurrected four years ago in a bid to unearth a Wearside girl capable of winning the Miss England crown.
Former Miss Sunderland Tamzin Cummings, 21, from Ashbrooke, was chosen by the public to represent the title at this year’s Miss England, which takes place in Leicester on June 25 and 26.
It means the winner of the forthcoming event at Rainton Meadows Arena, which features 30 finalists, will compete as Miss Sunderland in Miss England 2013.
For fans of the male physique, the Mr North East contest will also take place at the event on June 10, to find a hunk to represent the region at the Mr England final.
