THE Wanted were thrilled when Sunderland AFC presented them with customized football shirts at North East Live on Saturday.
“How cool are these?” Said singer Tom Parker, 23.
The band said they were pleased to be in the Stadium of Light, never having been to Wearside before.
“Of course we know of Sunderland,” said Tom.
“We’ve only played in Newcastle before, but we know Sunderland.
“This is a lot bigger than Cheltenhnam Road.”
The Bolton Wanderers fan sported his SAFC shirt to perform at the concert, which pleased lots of the dads in the crowd.
The five-piece boy band were second to top the bill – coming on just before headliners JLS, who praised their performance.
They also took time to greet tearful fans, who were overcome with excitement meeting their idols.
The band, also including Siva Kaneswaran, Max George, and Nathan Sykes – who managed to sing the full set despite having recently had throat surgery – said they were pleased to be a part of the biggest concert ever to be played in the North East.
“We’ve been out of the country for a while and this is our first set of gigs back,” said 21-year-old Jay McGuiness.
“We’re really excited. We played new stuff, and some covers.”
The Wanted were in America filming a new TV series called The Wanted Life, for the American channel E! Which airs tonight.
The busy band have also released a new single, Walks Like Rihanna, which they played at the Stadium of Light gig, are and gearing up to release a new album.
“We’re really busy,” said Tom.
“The single is out now, and the album comes out in September – make sure you get that in.”
The Wanted Life is on Sky channel 151 tonight at 9pm.
