A host of regional talent will take to the stage at the first music festival set to be held at the derelict Jacksons Landing.
The Mail can reveal that the derelict site will be transformed on September 19 for the We Are Family Festival.
Hartlepool collective The Jar Family is curating and producing the event, which will feature more than 15 artists and is expected to attract 5,000 music-lovers.
Highlights will include performances from Sunderland’s rootsy psych pop outfit Hyde & Beast, indie rock band Frankie & The Heartstrings, Northern funk duo Smoove & Turrell and Hartlepool heroes The Jar Family themselves.
Emerging talent and special guests will also feature on the bill.
Though the event is subject to planning and licensing permissions being granted, Hartlepool Borough Council has shown its support for the event and organisers are working alongside the council and Camerons Brewery to stage the festival.
Coun Christopher Akers-Belcher, the leader of the council, said: “Jacksons Landing forms a key part of the Regeneration Masterplan for the marina and surrounding area and we will be coming forward with options to develop the site over the summer.
“In the meantime, hosting a major music event is an excellent way to utilise the site, but it is of course subject to the appropriate planning and licensing permissions being granted.”
Jar Family member Max Bianco says “We wanted to create something that really celebrated the vast musical talent in the North East and to acknowledge the support the local population has given us ... and give them something to smile about!”
Tickets for We Are Family are £6 and go on sale at 9am on Friday from www.ticketweb.co.uk/event/we-are-family-festival-tickets/182447. They are also available at Christ Church Booking Office, Church Square, or by calling (01429) 890000.
