Eighties idols T’Pau are heading to Sunderland.
The band, famously fronted by Carol Decker, will be performing at The Pullman, Seaburn, as part of their autumn tour.
The act burst onto the music scene in 1987 with the hit Heart & Soul, reaching No.4 in the UK and US charts. This was followed up by the release of the classic ballad China In Your Hand – which stayed at No.1 for five weeks – the longest serving No.1 of the year.
It went on to become one of the most played songs of the decade.
Today, the band are back on the road and celebrating 25 years in the music industry.
They will play the Sunderland venue on Thursday, October 2, as part of its drive to bring a series of well-known artists to Sunderland seafront.
The Pullman reopened in December last year after two years of closure. The venue, which is operated by three local businessmen, is under a five-year lease with Sunderland City Council.
John Gray, operations director at The Pullman, said: “Bringing T’Pau to The Pullman is just the first name in a long wish list that we have. We always said that The Pullman is a ‘venue’. We aim to play host to intimate concerts from well-known artists, and T’Pau is just the beginning.
“Our room is perfect for this up close performance and this brings live music to the heart of Sunderland.”
The Pullman Hotel, Bar and Function Room has launched a subsidiary company, Pullman Live, that will handle all its live events.
Tickets for T’Pau at The Pullman, priced £19.50, go on sale tomorrow at 10am. They can be purchased from The Pullman, by calling 529 2020 or via the website www.pullmanlive.co.uk
