The Sunderland Symphony Orchestra will be holding its autumn concert on Saturday at 7.30pm in West Park Church, Stockton Road.

This is the orchestra’s eighteenth concert season and the Mayor of Sunderland, Coun Doris MacKnight, will be in attendance.

The programme will contain well-known pieces, such as: Fingal’s Cave Overture (Mendelssohn), Perpetuum Mobile (Strauss) and Les Misérables (Schonberg).

New to the orchestra’s repertoire will be Hunting Polka (Strauss), four movements from Pineapple Poll by Sullivan and Plymouth Hoe Overture by Ansell.

The programme will finish with the traditional Rule Britannia, Jerusalem and Pomp & Circumstance March No. 1.

Musical director and principal conductor, Paul Judson, is recovering from knee surgery so has been unable to take recent rehearsals, so David Milner will conduct.
