A CITY band is hoping to land its biggest gig yet after making it to the final of a contest to play Metro Radio Arena.
Pop punk band High Anthem is one of 10 bands down to the final of Metro Radio’s Big Audition.
They’ll battle it out against the other finalists on April 30, at Newcastle College’s Performance Academy.
The winner will perform at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena on December 7, alongside chart-topping acts.
Last year’s line-up included Ed Sheeran and Nicole Sherzinger.
Bassist and backing singer, Simon Spoors, said: “We auditioned with our original song, Hello, and we flew through it.
“There’s not really a lot of music like ours around here.
“We saw the opportunity and decided to go for it – if you get the chance to play to 10,000 people you’ve got to.
“It’s a massive dream for everyone in the band and it would just be phenomenal. It’s not a chance that comes along very often for an unsigned act.
“It would open a lot of doors for us and get our name out to a lot more people, which is really what we’re hoping for.”

As part of the contest, the band has to raise as much money as they can for Metro Radio’s charity Cash For Kids.
Simon, 24, from Silksworth, added: “We’ve got a couple of gigs coming up to raise some money and our guitarist, Anthony Fish, has been busking as well.
“We’re also going to try to organise some fund-raising events in clubs.”
