Sting drops in at The Sage

Have your say

ROCK legend Sting inspired budding musicians when he made a secret guest appearance at The Sage, Gateshead.

The former Police frontman was at the relaunch of the University of Sunderland-accredited music degree course.

He offered students advice on carving out a successful career in the music industry.

“It was informative and inspiring to meet Sting,” said Ernie Stafford, a 26-year-old music student from Tunstall, Sunderland.

“It was exciting to be able to watch him rehearse on the same stage where we study and perform.”

Hoping to uncover new talent, the Bachelor of Music (BMus) course is aimed at performers and producers from a range of styles and genres.

Sting provides a vast knowledge and experience in his role as adviser to the course, which is having a rebirth with the Sage Gateshead as its new home.

He said: “The Sage Gateshead is a vibrant music facility and a perfect home for BMus.”

Aspiring musicians can apply to join the September 2011 BMus course now through UCAS.
