A Seaham band is celebrating a sell-out show.

Alternative indie rockers Social Room have been building a strong fan base after winning a Battle of the Bands competition to open this summer’s Sunniside Live festival in Sunderland.

Now, they’ve sold out their own show at Newcastle’s O2 Academy 2 next Saturday.

It will be the first in a series of upcoming gigs for Matty Smith on lead vocals, guitarist Adam Potts, guitarist Simon Bewick, bass player Alex Gunn, drummer Adam Jefferson and Chris Leonard on keys.

Next month, they’ve secured a show in Camden, London, as well as a slot on stage at the new FanZone at the Stadium of Light, ahead of the Derby Day clash with Newcastle United on October 25.

They’ll also be performing a headline gig on November 28, at Independent in Holmeside, supported by local acts, as a launch night to promote their debut EP.

Lead singer Matty said: “We had a great show at Sunniside Live, it worked really well considering it was the first time a festival like that had taken place in Sunniside.

“We were over the moon to win the Battle of the Bands contest and the festival was a great experience for us.”

Speaking about building a following, he said: “The message is definitely getting out there, we couldn’t believe it when we sold out Academy 2. Playing London is a big one for us too.”

Next month will also see the band make their new video. Their first video for single SR7 has already racked up thousands of views on YouTube.
