Rod Stewart – Merry Christmas Baby

Have your say

WHEN I heard that Rod Stewart was throwing his hat into the Christmas crooner ring, my first thought was that Michael Bublé, would be frothing; easy-listening Noël numbers are his territory now.

Not a bit of it. In fact, he makes an appearance here, duetting with Rod on Winter Wonderland.

This may be a sinister plot however, as it perfectly highlights how Bublé’s smooth style, as opposed to Stewart’s trademark gravelly voice, is better suited to this genre.

That said, this mix of standards is perfectly fine, and What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve works particularly well; Stewart blending perfectly with Ella Fitzgerald’s original vocal.

This season, there’s every reason to enjoy Merry Christmas Baby as well as Bublé.

Just try saying that after some festive bubbly.
