A perfect night of music with the singer-songwriter behind Fairground Attraction and an evening with one of the world’s most respected guitarists are set to wow audiences at Gala Theatre this week.

Eddi Reader performs at the Durham City venue tonight, with John Etheridge taking to the stage tomorrow.

Eddi started her career performing in folk clubs and busking on the streets of Glasgow and Irvine before joining punk outfit Gang of Four.

She toured as a backing singer with Eurythmics, the Waterboys and Alison Moyet, eventually finding fame in the late 1980s with Fairground Attraction.

Eddi has become one of popular music’s most affecting musicians. From the traditional to the contemporary, she brings life to all forms of song.

John Etheridge has many styles and influences. He was the guitarist for jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli and has also performed with Pat Metheny, Dizzy Gillespie and Nigel Kennedy.

He is currently working with classical guitarist John Williams.

He will be joined in Gala’s intimate Studio setting by special guest Kit Holmes. Kit’s trademark sultry vocals and virtuoso guitar playing have wowed audiences across the UK.

Their performance promises uplifting blues, folk, jazz, African grooves and more.

Tickets for Eddi Reader are priced at £22.50. Tickets for John Etheridge are £15 each. To book, visit Gala box office, Tel. 03000 266 600 or go online at
