ORGANISERS of the Ignition Festival have pledged the update thousands of ticket holders soon on the fate of the event.

What seems clear is that Ignition will not be going ahead at Newcastle Racecourse, where it was due to be held on Saturday and Sunday.

The live music festival, which was to include camping, was thrown into chaos last night when the racecourse issued a statement on Facebook claiming: “The Ignition Festival has been cancelled by its organisers.”

This was quickly denied by the organisers, who have issued various denials on Facebook and are believed to be locked in discussions over an alternative venue.

The organisers’ latest Facebook update said: “At this moment in time we will be making no statement regarding our relationship with Newcastle Racecourse, however an official statement will be issued very soon.”

Calvin Harris, Frank Turner, Echo and the Bunnymen and Feeder are among the highest profile acts due to perform at Ignition.

Turner said on his Facebook page today: “The venue pulled out but the promoters didn’t. This means the fest is 99 per cent still going ahead, just in a new venue, which will be announced later today. Sit tight!”
