POLICE are advising concert goers to plan their journeys ahead of this month’s North East Live pop extravaganza.

The Stadium of Light will be hosting the event on Sunday, June 22, featuring 10 bands performing throughout the afternoon and evening.

With thousands heading for the venue, traffic is expected to be busier than usual in Sunderland city centre.

The road network around the stadium will be restricted and motorists are advised that they will not be able to drive up to the stadium to pick up or drop off concert goers.

Sunderland City Council has a number of car parks in operation across the city, with spaces available at sites including St Mary’s, Sunniside and the Civic Centre, open until 1am and patrolled by parking attendants.

Police are advising people of the routes they can take to and from the city centre’s car parks to avoid congestion.

Motorists travelling to and from the south can use Chester Road (A183), Durham Road (A690) or Hendon Road (A1018).

People travelling to and from the north can use Newcastle Road (A1018) or the A1231.

Artists including Rizzle Kicks, The Saturdays, Katy B and Jason Derulo, will be appearing at the concert which will be headlined by singer Jessie J.
