A SHOW which celebrates 50 years of Motown in all its show-stopping glory is rolling into Sunderland.

The Magic of Motown will breathe new-life into era-defining tunes on the Sunderland Empire stage in April.

It features 36 massive chart-toppers from The Supremes, Temptations, Four Tops, Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Martha Reeves, Lionel Richie and more.

The cast and live band faithfully reproduce Motown’s original Detroit sound to celebrate five decades of the record label’s music.

In 1963, Motown were regularly topping the charts in the States.

Heat Wave by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, You Really Got a Hold On Me by The Miracles, It Should’ve Been Me by Kim Weston, Fingertips Pt 2 by Little Stevie Wonder and Can I Get a Witness by Marvin Gaye, paved the way for the label’s meteoric rise to become one of the most influential and successful record label of all time.

To mark the occasion, The Magic of Motown, which is now in its 10th year, has added new numbers to its set.

Male lead Andre Lejaune said: “Sixties classics give way to present-day masterpieces from Lionel Richie and Diana Ross.

“Sadly, many of the original Motown legends are either no longer with us or no longer touring.

“The Magic of Motown is the nearest you’ll get to authentically capturing their incredible musical legacy in a live show.

“Our young cast is able to reflect the exuberance and excitement of these songs as they were originally performed.”

The Magic of Motown revives all-time favourites like: Stop in the Name of Love; Signed, Sealed, Delivered; My Guy; What Becomes of the Broken Hearted; I Heard it Through the Grapevine; Endless Love; All Night Long; Heatwave; I’m Coming Out; Why Do Fools Fall in Love; Get Ready; Ain’t Too Proud to Beg; My Girl; I Want You Back; I’ll Be There; Blame it on the Boogie and Dancing in the Street.
