Alternative rock band Masamune are set to support Fearless Vampire Killers at the O2 Academy 2 in Newcastle on April 18.

After the success of the Mackem four-piece’s self organised and promoted EP launch gig at a packed Plugged Inn on Easter Saturday, this is an opportunity for the band to play to a wider audience.

Neil Anthony from the band, said: “It’s a good feeling to be selected to play with a band that is well supported enough to headline a smaller stage at Download Festival.

“We feel it’s a step in the right direction for us to support a touring band at the O2 Newcastle. This gig will be a great opportunity for us to show a different crowd of people what we are about and we’ll hopefully pick up new fans along the way.”

Masamune is made up of Steve Kane (guitar), James Wallace (bass and backing vocals), Jack Johnson (drums) and Neil Anthony (lead vocals).

Taking influence from bands such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, Led Zeppelin, Rage against the Machine, Masamune have built up a local reputation for putting on energetic live performances.

*Tickets for the Fearless Vampire Killers gig are available from the O2 Academy website for £8.05 (includes booking fee).
