Local talent has been hand-picked to take to the stage at an annual music festival.

Riverain, Edenthorn, The Firelight Opera, Hazels and Sean Hainey will perform ahead of the headliners at this year’s Chester-le-Street Fake Festival, which takes place at Riverside Park on Saturday, August 6.

They’ll be performing during the day before headliners Stereotonics, Antarctic Monkeys and Queen tribute Flash perform in the evening at the tribute act festival.

Organiser Bec Evans said: “We are very fortunate to receive hundreds of applications to perform on our main stage. There is no set criteria for choosing the artists, we just have a listen to them, check out their social media and then decide if their sound is right for our event.”

“We do, however, like to ensure that the artist is professional, as we take the quality of our entertainment very seriously. We feel we get the right balance of original and covers artists which mixes the day up and also gives up and coming bands a chance to showcase their music. We have had the likes of NME Magazine and Capital FM attend our festivals so it’s a great platform for new music.”

Riverain, a professional five-piece rock covers band, will be warming the crowd up for the main tributes.

Hazels are a five-piece energetic indie rock band from Newcastle who write and perform their own original material. And Sean Hainey is a singer, songwriter and guitarist who will open this year’s festival with a mix of his own work and Mod and Britpop covers.
