HAND-PICKED to play at last year’s Split Festival by The Futureheads’ Barry Hyde, indie five-piece Athletes In Paris are now gearing up to release their debut single.
The band, who mostly hail from Sunderland, were invited to perform at the festival at Ashbrooke Sports Ground alongside Maximo Park, Frankie & The Heartstrings, Detroit Social Club and Little Comets.
Support slots with The Automatic and Jack Penate have also followed.
Their debut single, Borrowed Time, which will be released on April 4, is written about a turbulent relationship of singer Matt Robson’s.
But for local fans, the single is released earlier, and will be marked with a launch party tonight.
This will take place at the Bridge Hotel, Newcastle City Centre, at 7.30pm.
Also performing on the night will be Boldon-based duo, Gallery Circus, and Durham University-based band, Venice Under Water.
Tickets are £4 on the door or £3 if signed up as attending to Facebook event found via www.facebook.com/AthletesInParis.
The first 50 people through the door will also get a free CD copy of the single.
The locally released version of the track will be available at all gigs.
