FOLLOWING their success singing carols to cheer patients at University Hospital North Durham, Durham Choral Society and Orchestra are taking on a more serious challenge for their forthcoming concert.
Together with Katherine Fuge, the soprano who performed with the group last May, they will be singing a program of early 20th century music which they have never performed before.
The program includes Rutter’s Magnificat; Four Last Songs by Strauss; the choral version of Barber’s Agnus Dei and Parry’s I was Glad. As usual, Richard Brice will be conducting.
Another first for this concert is that the Undercroft Restaurant in the Cathedral will be open from 6pm to serve a two-course pre-concert dinner, with a variety of dishes at a reasonable price.
