GRAMMY-NOMINATED songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman will give ten North East musicians the chance to join her for a masterclass ahead of her return to The Sage Gateshead in the spring.
Budding singer/ songwriters in the region are invited to submit a song and lyrics directly to Beth Nielsen Chapman by February 22.
She will then pick 10 singer-songwriters to join her for a five-hour masterclass on March 15 where she will critique their songs.
Three of them will then be invited to perform alongside her in a special intimate concert the next evening at The Sage Gateshead called Hear My Song.
The concert will see Beth performing her own material including new songs from her 2012 release The Mighty Sky and also feature a choir of students from Emmanuel College.
In addition to the master class and concert, on the morning of March 15 the wider public are invited to an open lecture/workshop presented by Beth.
The event will focus on unleashing creativity and honing song writing techniques and is open to all, not just singer-songwriters and performers. It will run from 10am to 12pm in The Sage Gateshead’s Northern Rock Foundation Hall and tickets cost £10.
Nashville songwriter Beth wrote Faith Hill’s smash hit This Kiss as well as penning songs for Elton John, Bonnie Raitt, Trisha Yearwood, and a host of other big country stars.
Students from Emmanuel College will be trained by Sage Gateshead musician Sharon Durant and perform with Beth in the venue’s intimate Hall Two.
Tamsin Austin, Head of Popular and Contemporary Music at The Sage Gateshead, said: “This is such an exciting opportunity for local songwriters to work with a successful international song-writing star.
Beth’s concerts are always a big draw so we are looking forward to her coming back and so grateful that she is giving up her time to help inspire new upcoming talent in the region.”
The closing date for submissions is February 22. Singer-songwriters should submit one song with lyrics and a supporting email with some information about yourself and what you hope to gain from the masterclass to a special email address which The Sage Gateshead Ticket Office (443 4661) will give you upon purchasing your workshop ticket.
Make sure to include the words SAGE MASTERCLASS in the title of the email.
