One of the first acts to play the new Independent has been announced.

The much-loved bar and music venue is set to re-open in Spring with Bromheads performing on April 22. They will perform on stage at the new Independent in the former Van Mildert store in Holmeside after the original venue across the road was forced to close its doors due to a demolition order. The band, who changed their name from Bromheads Jacket to Bromheads, have also announced their new album, Choro, which is released on April 15.

Bromheads’ last release saw the band give away individual tracks to their fans for free over the course of a year, eventually compiled into The Lamp Sessions.

However Choro is an attempt to capture the raw quality of live recordings. Lead singer, Tim Hampton said: “We wanted to capture that excitement you get in the practice room when you first play a song together that’s only just been written.

“If there’s mistakes so what? The idea was to capture the rawness and energy you get from playing something new.”
