A POP group will aim to be pitch perfect as they stage a sports stadium concert.

Boyzone will perform at the home of Durham County Cricket Club in Chester-le-Street on Saturday, June 7.

The event follows on from the success of shows by Elton John, Tom Jones, the Big Reunion gig and Durham Summer Nights, a two-evening event featuring Five, Blue and Atomic Kitten, followed by Jessie J.

Bosses at the Emirates International Cricket Grounds said they were keen to bring another big name to the venue and expect the response to their latest announcement to be huge.

Tickets for Boyzone – made up of Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham and Shane Lynch – are on sale now.

Ronan said: “We love the chance to play outdoors through the summer, so I’m looking forward to a great night in Durham.”

Promoter Liz Doogan Hobbs MBE, from LHG Live, added: “Boyzone are a great band to work with and have a fantastic new live show planned for this summer.

“We are very excited to be bringing them to Emirates Durham. We are looking forward to a great atmosphere again at the club.”

The band have released 21 singles, seven albums and sold 25million records.

The show at the Riverside is one of a series of concerts by the group during the summer, with other dates to be played in Sherwood Pines, Delamere Forest, Thretford Forest, Westonbirt Arboretum in Gloucestershire, Delapre Park in Northampton, Scarborough Open Air Theatre and Epsom Forest.

Tickets for the Chester-le-Street date are £37.50 and can be bought via
