The Customs House Big Band will be returning this weekend for its annual concert performance.
The 18-piece big band will, as usual, be featuring award-winning singer Ruth Lambert in a programme covering the standards from the 50s and 60s to the present day.
This Saturday’s concert will also remember respected big band musician Vince Bovill from East Herrington, who died in January.
Vince, 89, regularly supported the Customs House Big Band.
He began playing in bands when he was just a child before travelling the country as a musician and then becoming a woodwind instrumental teacher at schools across Sunderland and South Shields.
The Customs House Big Band, under the musical direction of Peter Morgan, is a regular part of the North East musical scene.
It will perform a programme of foot tapping music – through the greatest of the big band writers, from Basie to Buddy Rich and Ferguson to Goodwin – on Saturday from 7.30pm at the Customs House in South Shields.
