Metro passengers will be hit by delays as South Tyneside hosts the first of its pop parties this weekend.
Sunday will see 5ive and Atomic Kitten perform to thousands as Bents Park hosts the beginning of its Summer Concerts series.
While Metros will run between Jarrow and South Shields, those heading beyond that point to Gateshead Stadium and further up the line will face a bus replacement services between 7.30am and 7.30pm.
The closure of the section, along with the track between Gateshead Stadium and Brockley Whins, is to allow for modernisation work.
Huw Lewis, corporate manager for customer services and communications at Nexus, which runs the Metro, said: “There will be frequent Metro trains between Jarrow and South Shields on Sunday and replacement buses between Jarrow and Gateshead Stadium, as well as between Brockley Whins and Gateshead Stadium.
“We are delivering a huge programme of modernisation and while we try to plan engineering projects to avoid events taking place in the region this is not always possible.”
The 900 bus will run between Jarrow and Gateshead and the 901 between Gateshead and Brockey Whins.
A timetable is available via nexus.org.uk/metro and anyone who needs help planning their journey can call 0191 202 0747.
A South Tyneside Council spokesman said: “It is unfortunate that the modernisation works are taking place on the same day as our first free Sunday concert, however we do appreciate the improvements are needed.
“We are still expecting a bumper crowd due to the quality of acts performing We would advise people to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time for travelling to the concert.”
