Where would you go if you wanted to ditch the meat?

Today celebrates vegetarians across the world - but if you’re one of them, where are you planning to eat out locally?

We’ve taken a look around the region and chosen just a couple of the places you could visit.

The Good Apple Cafe, Derwent Street, Sunderland: catering for both vegetarians and vegans, this little eatery scores highly on TripAdvisor’s reviews of the city. Also offering gluten free options, why not pop in for a tasty breakfast, sandwich or other light bite (followed by a cake, of course).

The Health Warehouse, Post House Wynd, Darlington: Described as a “tucked-away gem” for both vegetarians and vegans, the Health Warehouse for a snack or indeed a hearty meal.

Jumping Bean Cafe, Neville Street, Durham: With plenty of dietary options available, you will be spoilt for choice at this Durham haunt. Enjoy a delicious cup of a coffee, accompanied by a vegan cake, and celebrate the art of good food.

The Sky Apple Cafe, Heaton Road, Newcastle upon Tyne: A cafe by day and a “bistro” by night, cross over the water to visit what’s been described as the best veggie haunt in the whole of Newcastle.

Scrumpy Willow & The Singing Kettle, Clayton Street, Newcastle upon Tyne: while meat is also served, this cafe offers an extensive range of fresh vegetarian options in its day to day menu – the perfect place for a shopping break.
