Empire Cinema, in Sunniside, will broadcast a screening of Take That, live from London’s O2.

It’s part of the cinema’s drive to offer Wearsiders the chance to see live screenings of top shows from the Capital, without leaving Sunderland.

This month’s Empire Extra programme also includes a National Theatre production of London Road and La Boheme Live from the Royal Opera House.

Jon Nutton, marketing director of Empire Cinemas, said: “June’s Empire Extra screenings boast a fantastic broad range of live arts spanning; popular opera to live music from the UK’s biggest act, to feature-film theatre; London Road. This unmissable premiere event will feature an exclusive Q&A following the screening with the key cast and crew, broadcast live from London.

“We’re thrilled to offer our customers the experience to witness these historical events for the arts industry, including the last staging of La Boheme, for a fraction of the ticket price. Empire Extra continues to be a raging success with our loyal and new customers, and we look forward to continuing this with June’s excellent line-up.”

Take That Live From the 02 takes place on June 19. It sees them performing their new live show in support of album III, which they brought to Newcastle last week.

Fans will be able to see the gig, which features dancing jellyfish, puppetry and a contemporary dance routine performed by Mark and Howard, in HD and surround sound

London Road Live Film Premiere will be screened on June 9.

Hailed as a remarkable, ground-breaking work during two sell-out runs at the National Theatre, London Road tells a moving story of ordinary people coming together during the darkest of experiences, struggling with frequent soliciting and kerb-crawling on their street. This feature film, has an ensemble cast including Olivia Colman, Kate Fleetwood, Anita Dobson and Tom Hardy.

Royal Opera House La Boheme Live hits the screen on June 10. Staged for the very last time, the most popular opera of all will be screened from one of the Royal Opera House’s best loved stagings.
