AN artist is hoping to help people brush up on their skills in the new year.

Carol White is offering a range of classes to aspiring artists in the borough.

The 55-year-old, of East Boldon, is encouraging people to take on the challenge.

She said: “The new year is a great time to take on a challenge, and why not make it a watercolour challenge?

“Painting is a wonderful therapy, stress relief and a great way to relax at home, especially in these dark winter nights. People are always amazed at what they can achieve, even those who say they can’t draw a straight line.

“Step-by-step brush strokes make it as easy as one, two, three, so anyone can do it if they put their mind to it.”

She added: “Classes are friendly, informal groups where participants support each other throughout their learning, share a cuppa and their life tales and paint experiences, of course.” Carol is offering anyone who wants to give the classes a go free materials so there’s no extra cost for
people trying painting for the first time.

She added: “You could relax after work or after your busy daily commitments by allowing yourself some me time as a resolution for 2015.

“Or how about a little wind down at the end of the week? Chill out and paint while making new friends.”

Classes are being held at the United Reformed Church Hall in Front Street, East Boldon, on Monday evenings from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, and at Whitburn Parish Hall, in Church Lane, from 1.15pm to 3.15pm on Fridays. Courses start the week beginning Monday, January 12. Both run for 10 weeks, excluding school holidays.

The usual cost is £65, with a £52 discount.

Further classes run on Wednesday mornings at St Peter’s Church Hall, in Sunderland Road, South Shields, between 10am and noon and Friday mornings, from 10am to noon, at Whitburn Parish Hall. These classes are not discounted and have limited availability.

Anyone who wants full details of all courses times and availability can go to www.carolsart.co.uk or call 536 7851.
