Ken Devine is calling on fans to contribute to the Art of Football exhibition he is running at his Frederick Street Gallery in Sunniside.

The exhibition already features striking portraits of sporting heroes, such as Ronaldo, Giggs and Messi, as well as art works created in celebration of SAFC. But Ken has left a number of areas blank so that fans can contribute their own works, whether that be a doodle on a sketch wall or paintings and sculptures they can drop off at the gallery, which is on the corner of Frederick Street and Athenaeum Street.

No previous artistic experience is needed, just a passion for football.

Ken said: “This is a unique opportunity for fans to see their art on the walls of a fine art gallery. I’ve created a wall on which fans can doodle or sketch pieces or they can bring artworks they’ve created at home into the gallery. They just need to give me a price they’d like to sell the pieces for.

“The gallery would take a small commission but this is a chance for them to sell their work. I remember saving my pocket money to go and see my favourite Sunderland players in the sixties. Once football gets you, you’re hooked and this is about expressing that passion.”

He added: “We want to know what fans think of the opposition or current squad. We want them to share their passion, hopes, fears, dreams, ambitions and memories.”

Ken will also be creating a 3D tour of the Art of Football exhibition which will be available online.
