FAMILIES are being urged to look into their own archives for items which help tell the story of the North East’s industrial past.
East Durham Artists’ Network will host Ships and Pits at its Art Block base in Church Street, Seaham, from Tuesday, July 2, to Saturday, August 3.
The group is appealing for people to put forward pieces which play a part in the area’s history.
Group member Phil Barker said: “We want to display professional and amateur artwork, postcards, photos and memorabilia based on, or depicting, Seaham and the neighbouring areas as north as Sunderland and as south as Hartlepool.”
Donors as asked to drop off their pieces for loan along with a label describing it and their name and details so they can be returned easily, with all to be handed in by Wednesday, June 26.
Phil added: “Seaham is a fantastic place with a real sense of community and heritage amongst the locals.
“Since Art Block opened we have had many visitors with a story to tell about the local area.
“This show is not just about art work but memorabilia, everything from uniform buttons to postcards to sculptures made of drift wood or items salvaged off ships, everything is welcome for submission.
