A SOUTH Tyneside artist who has seen her business grow is on the lookout for a new studio to call her own.

Lindsey Grieves had no idea when she took her redundancy from Sunderland City Council that her long-burning passion for art would turn into a blossoming career.

Now, the former social worker has outgrown her home where she is currently based after being inundated with orders from people looking for that special gift or bespoke item.

Ms Grieves said: “When I first started, the first year was getting my website up and running. From there, I have just progressed. I am now involved in weddings – it wasn’t something I set out to do, but it is really nice.

“I have recently taken part in a ceramics course and that is another area which I have now branched out in.”

Ms Grieves, from Hill Street, Jarrow, first launched her business Light Source Art in August 2012 with the help of Sunderland’s Business Innovation Centre.

Since then, she has seen orders for her range of products grow.

When she started she had been based in Sunderland but always dreamed of having her own place in South Tyneside.

“When I was a little girl I always used to paint and I remember one of the teachers having one of my paintings of a horse on her desk.

“As I was growing up I never thought I would be able to make a career out of it.

“It was really a chance conversation with a lecturer at South Tyneside College where I was guided in the right direction.”

Ms Grieves often showcases her artwork at various craft fayres and a selection of her work can also be seen on her website.

“What I often find is people have something in mind but can’t find what it is they want. I can sit down with people discuss what it is they are after to create something personal to them.”
