According to Geeky Pastimes on Twitter, the files for Season 3’s challenges ending were changed so that they will now end on 10 June.

“According to datamined #CallofDuty files the Season 4 Update is coming on Wednesday morning UTC,” the tweeted. “The Unix Epoch codes in the files for Season 3 Challenges ending was changed from June 2 to June 10 UTC #CODLeak”

That leak seems to coincide with an earlier tweet from trusted Call of Duty news source CharlieIntel, who claimed the release date would be moved to this week.

Season 4 was originally meant to launch last week on 2 June, but the date was pushed back to an unspecified time by publishers Activision in the wake of George Floyd’s death and the Black Lives Matter demonstrations around the world.

"While we all look forward to playing the new seasons of Modern Warfare, Warzone and Call of Duty: Mobile, now is not the time,” the company announced on Twitter.

“We are moving the launches of Modern Warfare Season 4 and Call of Duty: Mobile Season 7 to later dates.

"Right now it’s time for those speaking up for equality, justice and change to be seen and heard. We stand alongside you."

The next season of Call of Duty adds fan favourite character Captain Price as a playable Operator – but only if you buy the Battle Pass.

Price is one of two new playable Operators, as Sergeant Kyle "Gaz" Garrick also gets added to the roster.

New weapons brought to the game include the Vector SMG and the Galil Ace – two iconic Call of Duty guns.

Season 4 also features a host of new rewards, as well as new maps and challenges, including the return of the Scrapyard map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Developers Infinity Ward have warned fans that the download size of the new update is large: nearly pushing 50 GB for the premium PC version.
