Rochelle Charlton-Lainé, 32, an art and design technology teacher at Dene Academy, in Peterlee, showed her talents to millions on Keith Lemon’s Fantastical Factory of Curious Craft on Sunday, June 7.

Each episode introduces four amateur crafters and celebrity clients, who set them the task of creating bespoke pieces as they battle it out at their “creation stations”.

In the programme, filmed over three days at Elstree Studios, in Hertfordshire, last September, contestants had to battle their way through two rounds using their artistic and ingenuity skills.

In the first round, contestants were asked to create superhero costumes. Rochelle’s was a stunning thermochromatic suit, meaning that as the temperature changes, so does the colour.

Her chosen superpower had an inclusive theme and was “to make everybody feel that they could be who they want to be.”

Her skills saw her make the latter stages of the show. Contestants were then whittled down to three and asked to create an original Scottish themed party centrepiece for Vogue Williams’ birthday party.

Rochelle came up with a selfie backdrop with thistles.

However, she was pipped to first place by fellow contestant Katie A-Go-Go, whose stag’s head took the honours.

But Rochelle, 32, was delighted with her experience.

She said: “The whole thing was really fun. How it looks on the television is how it was in the ‘factory’. It was all really nice and jovial.

“Keith Lemon was really funny. He never broke character. Him and Anna, his co-presenter, were like a double act; and his mam was around making us tea and coffee.

“I would do it all again. It was stressful, but positive. It sounds bizarre. It was.”

Rochelle lives in Seaham with husband Rob and their sons, Mason, five, and Jude, 18 months.

The programme is repeated on 4seven at 12.10am on Tuesday, June 9.
