Sunderland's property market enjoys positive start to 2018, says leading estate agent

The property market in Sunderland has seen a very positive start to 2018, according to one of the city’s leading estate agents.

And that has definitely given cause for optimism for what’s happening in the city.

Paul Airey estate agents and chartered surveyors is one of Sunderland’s best known companies, having been in operation for 34 years.

And, according to Paul, it is an exciting time for those buying and selling both commercial and residential properties.

“We have seen a huge amount of interest in Sunderland city centre in the last 12 months and that is linked to all the investments and initiatives taking place,” said Paul, whose company prides

itself on being property consultants offering a whole range of services.

“You have developments like the MAC quarter and companies like Tombola investing heavily in the city and then initiatives like the new bridge – they’re all helping turn attention on Sunderland.”

And that, according to Paul, is why people should also ensure they use the services of those on the ground.

“Using local companies mean you get the benefits of their local knowledge and expertise,” he said.

“Which is vital for anyone wanting to come in to the city for the first time or for anyone wanting to feel confident that the company they are dealing with knows the local market.”

Luckily Sunderland is home to a large number of estate agents and property management firms, from big, national companies to smaller, independent shops.

Peter Heron is a name synonymous with sales and lettings across the city. Set up by Peter Heron himself in 1990, it is now perhaps Sunderland’s most well-known estate agent, operating from its

Fawcett Street base.

Michael Hodgson is another home grown estate agents and chartered surveyors. Based at Athenaeum Street, the firm’s local knowledge gives it an edge over some of the larger national companies.

Dowen is another independent estate and lettings agent at Athenaeum Street, and is a popular choice with buyers and renters alike thanks to its friendly, personal approach.

Also at Athenaeum Street is Hackett Property, a firm which has been trading for 13 years, bringing a wealth of local knowledge and experience.

Other local property firms in the city centre include Paul Airey, Emily Charles and Manor Property Management at Frederick Street, along with William Dean & Co at West Sunniside.
