Sunderland City Council has said households whose wheelie bins are due to be emptied today, Wednesday, February 10, might experience issues, following on from problems the workers also faced yesterday.
A spokesperson told residents: “Due the level of snowfall yesterday and today our refuse team are experiencing difficulties with their collection service on specific none A and B priority routes, which may result in your bin not being collected today or on its normal day.

“Our vehicles are having difficulty navigating some roads due to the snow, particularly those higher up and the conditions underfoot are very poor for our crews.
“We have deployed local services staff to assist with refuse collection and we are working on rescheduling any missed collections, by putting arrangements in place to catch up on those collections and will continue to keep you informed through our social media channels about alternative dates.
“Our gritting teams will be working throughout the day too to maintain the city’s priority routes as there is potential for further snowfall today.
“Thank you.”

It has also worked to clear snow from those roads and secondary routes, with motorists and other road users reminded to only travel if essential and to drive carefully.
