Sunderland handed major injury blow as Jordan Willis stretchered off minutes into Shrewsbury Town clash

The Black Cats were forced into a change in the early moments of the game after Jordan Willis went down with less than two minutes on the clock.

Willis, who has been nursing an injury for the last few months, challenged Shaun Whalley for a ball before going down in some pain, clutching his knee.

After lengthy treatment, the central defender was stretchered off the field and replaced by Dion Sanderson.

Were Willis’ injury to prove serious, it would be another blow for Lee Johnson whose options at the centre of defence are limited.

Tom Flanagan was withdrawn from the squad at MK Dons with an injury while Arbenit Xhemajli is a long-term absentee.
