Stunning drone footage shows some of Sunderland's historic sights from above

Sunderland City Council has released new video of some of the most historic and scenic areas across the city.

The footage was filmed in the autumn of last year and aims to showcase the beautiful scenery that the city can offer, as well as highlighting its fascinating history and abundant wildlife.

The drone footage travels down the River Wear and features some of Sunderland's historic structures, such as the National Trust's Penshaw Monument and the Victoria Viaduct, as well as areas such as Cox Green and the Washington Wetlands Centre.

Coun Linda Williams, Sunderland City Council's Portfolio Holder for Vibrant City, said the video highlighted some of the city’s hidden gems alongside many of its best-known sights.

"The drone footage that has been released shows how stunning our city's scenic routes really are,” she said.

"As the weather starts to improve, it is a brilliant way to highlight all the beautiful areas that our residents can go out walking and exploring.

"It is also very informative, highlighting the incredible history of our city and the wildlife that lives here.
