Emmanuel Eboue sacked by Sunderland after ONE YEAR ban from FIFA

Emmanuel Eboue has been sacked by Sunderland less than a month into his Stadium of Light contract, following a ONE YEAR ban from FIFA.

Football's governing body FIFA today issued a statement confirming that Eboue is suspended from all football activity for the next year, unless he settles a debt with his former agent.

Sunderland have reacted to that news by terminating Eboue's contract, less than a month after the 32-year-old penned a short-term contract at the Stadium of Light. He has two weeks to appeal the decision.

"The suspension relates to a monetary dispute between the player and a former agent, which precedes his time at Sunderland AFC and was not something that the club was made aware of by the player," said a club statement.

"Eboue signed a contract with Sunderland AFC until the end of the current season and the club has therefore given notice of its intention to terminate the contract. "

Eboue went before FIFA's disciplinary commission back in September 2014, who fined him 30,000 Swiss Francs, plus ruling that he had to pay a debt owed to ex-agent Sébastien Boisseau.

The former Ivory Coast international had 120 days to pay the fee, otherwise Boisseau would be able to ask for Eboue to be banned from all football related activity for a year.

But the payment was not made, while Eboue's appeal was also rejected.

A FIFA statement today confirmed that Eboue is now banned for the next year, unless he pays the outstanding amount owed.

"Emmanuel Eboue, who has represented Ivory Coast and is currently registered for the English club Sunderland AFC is to serve a ban on taking part in any football-related activity that will last for one year or until he pays the total outstanding amount owed to his former agent if this occurs before the one-year ban has elapsed," said the statement.

"The relevant parties, including The Football Association which has been requested to implement said ban, have been informed accordingly."

Eboue did not make a competitive appearance for Sunderland, but did appear for the Under-21 side and featured in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Middlesbrough last week after recovering from a hamstring injury.
