The Wearsiders had a full 21-man squad for the first time, and visitors Catterick Crusaders duly suffered a 15-try, 88-14 defeat at Mortimer School in South Shields.

James Pocklington led the way with a five-try super show, with man of the match Derek Worthington adding four scores. Fellow backs Mark Wilson (2) and Ben Slater also touched down, with forwards Raymie Elliott (2) and Jack Weddell also scoring.

Pocklington added seven conversions, Paul Munro fired over six and Worthington also got in on the act.

Anthony Bolton, Geordie Spencer, Shaun Richardson and Elliott were outstanding.
