Seaham have high hopes

SEAHAM will guarantee second place at least if they beat visitors Newton Aycliffe in Durham and Northumberland Division Three on Saturday.

The Harbour men are five points behind leaders Prudhoe & Stocksfield and seven points clear of third-top Aycliffe, a side they edged 10-8 away, back in December.

Seaham maintained their title push – they have 15 points left to play for (with home games against Houghton and a previously cancelled clash with Jarrovians to fulfil) – with a 14-try demolition of Hartlepool BBOB last week, finishing runaway 82-0 winners.

After a two-week break from league rugby, Seaham were in the mood from the start and ran riot against the lowly home team.

Livewire flanker James Ramshaw led the way with a four-try salvo, supported by three tries from player-coach Jon Dye, who would have had a fourth only to unselfishly pass to Brad Green to touch down.

Right-wing Stuart Tisseman added a brace, with Jack McCallum, prop Paul Scott, replacement Joey Jonesand second row forward John Dixon also getting on the scoresheet – as did lock partner Andy Hogwood with a conversion.
