SUNDERLAND Under-13s came from behind in style to clinch a 31-28 victory when they travelled to Carlisle for their annual tour.
Carlisle took a quick penalty and scored the opening try, before stretching their lead to 14-0.
An excellent break from James Usher released Farai Chickumbrike, who weaved his way through to score a crucial try, which Ben Hutchinson converted.
The second half started disastrously for Sunderland as Carlisle scored straight from the kick-off to go 21-7 up.
Sunderland responded when an excellent Brad Wall tackle won the ball. He offloaded to Dev Koca, who found Ben Hutchinson to picked out Fletcher Jackson, who ran under the posts to score.
Sunderland struck again, to trail 21-17 when, after forcing a penalty close to the line, the ball was passed by captain Dean Edmundson out wide to Chickumbrike to score.
Jackson judged the bounce well to surge over the line for Sunderland’s fourth try, converted by Michael Holder.
A break from Louis Dearthe gained good yards and a quick passing move found Chickumbrike, who again weaved his magic to complete his hat-trick, with Holder converting for a 31-21 lead.
Carlisle struck again, but Sunderland held on for the victory.
