Romanian international goalkeeper Bogdan Stelea has made an impressive start to a trial period with Sunderland

But Portugese midfielder Antonio Pacheco has failed to win the spurs of manager Peter Reid and has already left for pastures new. Both foreigners, who are out of contract, reported for pre-season training last Wednesday with a view to a two-week trial.``I have been impressed with the goalkeeper since he came here and I will be talking to his agent, said Reid today.``Pacheco is too similar a type of player to what we already have here. He has left the club and we will not be taking our interest any further.Pacheco, a left-sided goalscoring midfielder, used to play for Sporting Lisbon but was at Sporting Club of Portugal last season and but for injury would probably have made the squad for Euro 96. Reid is believed to have paid Manchester United 600,000 for Manchester Uniteds Tony Coton last week and the vastly experienced keeper linked up with his new Roker colleagues at Whitburn today. And the signs are he could face immediate competition from Stelea, who played at St Jamess Park in Euro 96 and has 35 caps for his country
