Our resident non-league expert, Mark Carruthers, have delivered his verdict on the standout memories from the last decade.
And from Wembley wins to sustained progression, there are plenty of positive moments to remember as we head into 2020.

1. 10th - Stalwarts Dunston UTS leave the Northern League
Many clubs have become stalwarts of the Northern League but it’s probably safe to say that Dunston UTS (Dunston Federation Brewery, Dunston Federation) are one of the most respected and admired clubs. That is why their 2019 Division One title was tinged with sadness as they prepared to leave the league to ply their trade in the new-look BetVictor NPL North West Division. But they certainly earned their promotion by losing just three of their 34 league games and holding a 17-point lead over second placed Hebburn Town at the end of the season. Not to mention a remarkable FA Cup run that saw them beat the likes of North Ferriby United and Chester before succumbing to Gateshead in the final qualifying round. 2. 9th - Blyth Spartans come from behind to beat Hartlepool United in the FA Cup Second Round
Blyth Spartans have a reputation as one of the FA Cup’s most famous and prolific giant-killers and they wrote another chapter into their history with a win at North East neighbours Hartlepool United. Tom Wade’s side should have been dead and buried after Pools dominated the opening 45 minutes, but they only a took a one-goal lead into half-time thanks to header from Jonathan Franks. Spartans rallied at half-time and got back on level-terms with a stunning free-kick from Stephen Turnbull and went on to secure a third round tie against Birmingham City thanks to a late winner from winger Jarrett Rivers. 3. 8th - A first and only all-Northern League FA Vase Final (so far)
The Northern League’s dominance of the FA Vase has been well-versed (someone should write a book about that!), but the 2012 final proved to be a special occasion for the region as North East rivals Dunston UTS and West Auckland Town faced each other at Wembley. Dunston striker Andrew Bulford grabbed a goal in each half to ensure that it was Billy Irwin’s side that became the fifth different North East club to lift the Vase. Photo: Other
4. 7th - The remarkable rise of Stockton Town
The romantic tale of the Anchors rise from Wearside League to Wembley within two years may have come to an end with an FA Vase Final defeat against Thatcham Town. But the Teesside outfit have put that defeat behind them as they currently sit top of the Northern League Division One table and look well placed to continue their journey up the pyramid as we prepare to enter the next decade.
